Place Up — Privacy Policy
Place Up (Google Play package io.pinekey.placeup) is a place discovery app
that lets you search for places, view details, and save them to your own lists. This
policy explains what data Place Up collects and how we handle it.
TL;DR
- We collect your account email (email or Google sign-in) and the places you bookmark and search for.
- We do not collect your location, camera, photos, or contacts.
- We show ads via Google AdMob and use Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics, which use your advertising ID.
- Account data is stored on our servers in the United States.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data anytime — pinekey.dev@gmail.com.
01 Who we are
Place Up is built and operated by Pinekey, an independent mobile app studio. Pinekey is the data controller for the information described here. For any privacy question or request, contact us at pinekey.dev@gmail.com.
02 Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information. If you sign up with email, we collect your email address and password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email and name. A display name may be derived from the local part of your email.
- Saved places and searches. The places you bookmark to "My List", and the search terms you enter (kept as your search history on our servers).
Collected automatically
- Advertising and analytics data. Our ads and analytics components automatically collect your device's advertising ID (GAID), app usage events, crash diagnostics, and basic device information (model, OS version).
- On-device cache. Recently viewed places are cached locally on your device for performance.
What we do not collect
Place Up does not request or collect precise/GPS location, camera, photos/media, contacts, or microphone access. Map coordinates shown in the app are the locations of places, not of your device.
03 How your data is stored
- Your account, saved places, and search history are stored in our database on Amazon Web Services (AWS), in the United States (Ohio region). Passwords are stored as salted hashes, never in plain text.
- Place search results from Google are cached temporarily on our server.
- Data is transmitted between the app and our servers over encrypted HTTPS.
- On your device, your login session tokens are kept in encrypted local storage.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account data until you delete your account. To delete your account and all associated data (email, saved places, and search history), email pinekey.dev@gmail.com and we will permanently remove it from our database.
04 Third parties
Place Up relies on the following third-party services. We do not sell your personal data.
| Service | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Sign-In | Optional login | Google account email, profile name |
| Google Places API | Place search and details | Your search terms |
| Google Maps | Map display | Place coordinates (no personal data) |
| Google AdMob | In-app ads | Advertising ID (GAID), ad interactions |
| Firebase Analytics | Usage analytics | Advertising ID, app events, device info |

These services process data under their own privacy policies (for example, Google's Privacy Policy applies to Google Sign-In, Places, Maps, AdMob, and Firebase).
05 Children's privacy
Place Up is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
06 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
